Steve Hunter captures moments. He records subtle nuances + instants of time, performances, light, color + humanity. His passion drives his craft + his craft drives a more powerful story.

 

Steve’s done it all, from small crews to a major network series. He’s cinematized commercials, branded video content, documentaries, celebrities, real people, second unit, live events, studio shots, big lighting, minimal natural lighting + vision effects shooting. Steve specializes in the nuances + infinite patience required to film a variety of animals. 

 

He has lensed scenes from the East Coast to the West Coast, from small towns to big cites, from domestic to international venues — for Steve, it really is “have camera, will travel.”

 

But it’s Steve’s firm belief in partnership that brings a greater depth to his work.

His collaboration with directors yields a common vision. Every angle selected, every lens chosen, every light turned on, has a purpose to support + convey the story.

 

Beyond the knowledge of his craft is Steve’s ability to remain human in the midst of his work. He’s known by his colleagues to be calm + level-headed, with an easy-to-work-with swagger that brings out respect + best performances from his crew.

 

Recently, Steve was the Director of Photography of the critically hailed series Downward Dog for ABC TV + Legendary Pictures. It was the first limited series to ever debut at the Sundance Film Festival. Steve’s unique style of shooting added a stark yet powerful honesty that made the series even more engaging.

 

But it’s Steve’s own words that best convey his passion for cinematography.

 

“I have a heartfelt belief in the value of storytelling through lighting, lenses and camera angles,” he says. “I want my contribution to elevate, reinforce and contribute to the director’s vision.  It is truly a team effort, and I look forward to every set I step foot on.”
